About Us

Light Up Hoad is a new festival that will take place in Ulverston for the first time on Saturday 30th March 2024, which is Easter weekend.

The festival is organised and managed by a volunteer management committee, comprising: Graham Scrogham, Caroline Smith, Neil Fleming, working in collaboration with a number of partner organisations, including Ford Park Community Group, Ulverston Inshore Rescue, Ulverston Resilience Group, Ulverston BID, and Ulverston Town Council.

The committee has no political or religious affiliations.

Generous financial support has been provided by Ulverston BID and MARL.

The main event is located on Hoad Hill, including the Sir John Barrow Monument. Ford Park will be used as the base for organisers, including the event control point, first aiders, car parking, and toilets.

The event features hundreds of participants walking up the front of Hoad Hill at dusk, forming a line of torches from the foot of the hill up to the monument. The monument will initially be lit red at dusk. At the appointed time, the monument lighting will be changed to amber, followed by green. Torches, lighting effects, and a live drum band, will help to make the evening fun and memorable.
