What to do

  1. Bring a torch to help light up Hoad. That's the whole point!

  2. To avoid traffic congestion, please walk to the event or park in the town centre if you can.

  3. Limited parking is available in the grounds of Ford Park, subject to weather.

  4. The event control is in Ford Park Coach House, including lost property, lost children, and first aid.

  5. Children aged 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

  6. Show your tickets at the Coach House to collect a free LED glow stick for each child.

  7. Hot drinks may be purchased in the walled garden at Ford Park. Please put litter in the bins provided.

  8. Toilets will be provided at Ford Park.

  9. No lighters, fireworks, sparklers, or any other form of fire or explosives.

  10. No dogs on the route, as they may present a tripping hazard for others.

  11. No alcohol or recreational drugs. This is a family event.

  12. Photography is encouraged. Take as many photos as you like and share on social media.

  13. Do not fly a drone anywhere over Ford Park or Hoad Hill. There will be an official safety drone flying - do not get in its way!

  14. Wear suitable clothing and footwear. The event uses the grass path up the front of the hill, which can get slippy.

  15. Please be aware that the path is narrow and uneven in places.

  16. If you are unable to climb the path, please remain in the area at the foot of the hill marked with green/white flags.

  17. Follow the path up the hill marked with the red/white flags. Please be patient with people walking slowly.

  18. Spread yourselves out along the path to make a continuous ribbon of light all the way up the hill. It is NOT a race to the top of the hill!!

  19. The monument will initially be lit white at dusk. Please try to be in your preferred position by 7:55pm, when the monument lighting will be changed to red, and you should switch off any torches and lights, if it is safe to do so.

  20. At 8pm, the monument lighting will be changed to green. Please switch your lights back on and wave them around, so that we can capture photos and videos of the moment.

  21. If you need help at any time, ask the nearest steward, or go to a SAFETY sign and follow the instructions on the sign.
